A Spring Paperbag Shorts OOTD for a Doughnut Outing

I wore this simple spring-y outfit, featuring paperbag waisted shorts and this cropped mustard yellow tee, out to grab doughnuts from a local shop with my husband and son. My husband promised my son the treat of a doughnut with his own choice of toppings - the place we went lets you customize your doughnut toppings if you want - so of course he chose sprinkles. The weather was also nice that day, warm with a gentle breeze, and I think my outfit reflected the prospect of a fun day.I don't "dress up" a lot lately, even in shorts and tees, because we're still not going a ton of places, but I felt like wearing something other than gym shorts and the same tee I'd worn all week this day.

Handmade Floral Colorblock Mask

I thought I'd include the mask I wore that day in my outfit pics, because it happens to coordinate really well. I handmade this mask last year after tracing a basic pattern shape from a fabric mask my husband's work gave him early on in the pandemic, when disposable masks were scarce. That mask actually fit me much better than him, so I wanted to try making my own with more layers.I had to adjust the shape slightly around the center/nose area or the pattern template, since the original mask was made in a stretchy knit, whereas the ones I planned make with the pattern would use crisp cottons. For this mask in particular, I used a cotton linen blend from Spoonflower, printed with my own designs, which you can find on Spoonflower here. This fabric is a bit stiff/thick for a mask, really, especially if you're a quiet talker already like me, but it was honestly nice for warmth in the winter. I just had it leftover from making some tea towels. The inside is lined with cotton from an old pillowcase, and the ear loops are stretched strips of jersey from an old t-shirt that have been sewn through the channels on the sides of the mask and knotted.Click here for another recent outfit featuring the yellow cropped tee!
